Icebreaker Discussion: What Country Fits Your Personality?

Let’s get to know each other better!Shaking hands

If you use social media you’ve likely taken, or at least observed others taking, one of the personality quizzes recently circulating the Internet. Quiz results are one of the most shared pieces of information on sites such as Facebook. These quizzes, at most times, are simple personality tests that gauge someone’s answers based on their preferences. The following quiz is a fun personality quiz based on learning styles: What Country Fits Your Personality?

I found this quiz not only fun but I was also able to connect with my classmates who had the same interests. I would like to use this type of quiz in my classes to get students to work together on projects.

Class Wiki: Netiquette

Netiquettes are neat little ways to get students to respect the opinion of others in the class even if they disagree. It also is a safe way for students to make errors without the fear of criticism that is not constructive. I tried using this at the beginning of the term but gave my students  the option to sign their names with the hopes that in future netiquette posting, they will more comfortable with their classmates knowing how they feel about certain behavior.

ROL Inventory

My results to the inventory were excellent. I took the inventory twice because the first time I accidentally pressed the enter button. I found that I do understand what student centered learning looks like and the reasons behind it. I also agree that students should have a big role to play in their education as well as teachers should begin to recognize a student’s real strengths based on the student himself and not compared to others in the class. I must note that although I scored in  this way, in reality I am not always able to allow my students to work collaboratively on projects due to the constraints in the workplace on teachers in Saudi Arabia.

DISCOURSE ANALYSIS

YODI AND DI ALL ROLLED INTO ONE ……

I’d like to think that I am such a reflective person, always seriously thing ahead, however, there are times when the “princess” in me comes out and I want to make all my “subjects” happy. I am learning to give feedback that is not only honest but gentle, without feeling like I have done something wrong.
